Folks, we made it to the end of another work week. Before you get into full-blown weekend mode, get a look at today’s Midwest tech headlines, starting with several about biofuel.

Today’s headlines:

🌱 BIOFUEL:

  • Skokie, Illinois-based waste-to-ethanol producer LanzaTech is looking to create two more spin-off companies just three months after announcing a new sustainable aviation fuel spin-off, reports TechCrunch. No timeline was released for launching the new companies, although LanzaTech hopes to develop a plan in the next three months.
  • The American Coalition for Ethanol in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, released an online tool to help fuel retailers determine if their existing infrastructure can handle E15 ethanol or if technological upgrades are necessary.
  • Have you seen the #FlexCheck tool? ACE encourages you to spread the word about it to fuel marketers! Despite what they've been told by their petro suppliers about offering E15, they can easily check their equipment for themselves – many will be surprised. https://t.co/UA0739mcVT

  • Lallemand Biofuels & Distilled Spirits’ Milwaukee office announced a new yeast and enzyme innovation that could save ethanol producers up to $1 million per year, reports Biofuels Digest.

🚜 AGRICULTURE: Chesterfield, Missouri-based U.S. Farmers & Ranchers in Action released a report highlighting opportunities for agricultural businesses to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, boost sustainability, and help to achieve global sustainability goals, as well as the need for investment in agricultural data and technology infrastructure.

💻 VIRTUAL EVENTS:

  • For Chicago Water Week next week, the University of Chicago’s Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation is teaming up with Argonne National Laboratory and Fermilab to host a free webinar to help tech entrepreneurs partner with universities and national laboratories to develop their technologies.
  • Registration is open for the Clean Energy Trust’s Co_Invest Cleantech 2020. The annual event is virtual this year but still focuses on cleantech emerging from the nation’s mid-continent region.
