Toledo Solar has received a $200,000 federal grant to test solar photovoltaic modules that have glass-enameled steel backs instead of glass sheets, reports the Toledo Blade. The material makes the panels lighter and quicker to install, but testing will determine if they are as productive or durable as existing models.

🚚 TRANSPORTATION: A new report shows sustainable vehicle technologies and fuels for medium- and heavy-duty truck fleets are growing across all sectors examined: battery-electric, hydrogen fuel cell electric, natural gas, and propane powered vehicles. Cleantech consulting firm Gladstein, Neandross & Associates compiled the report with support from Chicago-based energy provider Exelon, Daimler Trucks North America, Penske Transportation Solutions, and Shell Oil Company.

🏭 CARBON CAPTURE: The Kansas Geological Survey will receive $310,000 in Department of Energy funding to create an interactive, open-access database for tracking data from carbon capture, utilization, and storage projects. This is part of a 15-entity carbon storage research partnership that also includes Indiana University.
